Title: Certified Nursing Assistant

Summary: To perform and deliver resident care activities and related non-professional services for assigned nursing home residents as directed by registered professional nurses or licensed practical nurse.


New York State Certified Nursing Aide Certification required.
Nursing home or acute care experience preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Ability to spell correctly, produce legible written documentation.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Organizational skills and proper body mechanics required.

Exhibits empathy and concern for resident well-being. Promotes dignity and respect for resident in performance of duties.
Performs/assists in personal care activities for residents to maintain adequate hygiene and dignity while promoting each individuals optimum level of ability:
• Bathing
• Shampoo
• Hair Style
• Shave
• Nail Care
• Oral Hygiene / Care of Dentures
• Skin Care
• Foot Care (including Diabetic)
• Appropriate Clothing
Communicates changes and pertinent information of resident’s condition to team leader and/or Resident Care Coordinator/Supervisor. Maintains awareness of major signs/symptoms of illness.
Maintains knowledge of and utilizes appropriate body mechanics; performs transfers, lifting, and transporting residents safely and according to plan of care.
Assists residents at meal times and with nourishments.
Utilizes proper techniques, including positioning, hygiene, feeding, monitoring, and recording of intake.
Encourages residents to drink fluids. Maintains calm, unhurried approach to facilitate enjoyment of meal.
Makes frequent and routine resident care rounds throughout shift, providing additional assistance with hygiene, grooming, etc.
Responds to residents requests for assistance in a timely manner. Answers call bells promptly.
Documents resident care accurately and legibly on specified forms.
Performs vital signs (temperature-pulse-respiration-blood pressure) accurately.
Promptly reports abnormalities to the charge nurse.
Is knowledgeable about each individual resident. Follows the written plan of care for each resident.
Displays analytical and basic problem solving skills.
Communicates problems to manager as appropriate.
Follows all time and attendance policies.
Attends educational programs provided by the facility.
Customer Service
Practices first impressions while maintaining appropriate appearance and always wearing name badge while on duty.
Practices I’s before E in every interaction: (Introduce - Inform - Involve - Inquire - Exit)
Responds appropriately and timely to customer needs.
Pages overhead for emergencies only.
Avoids technical jargon and uses language the customer can understand.
Respects privacy and confidentiality of customers according to HIPPA regulations and NDH policies.
