Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center, and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York — plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations.


Summary:

Manages and coordinates the daily operations of the Health Information Management staff as it pertains to record management, record completion, and release of information. The position is responsible for coordinating the accurate, efficient, and prompt performance of multiple HIM department operations and ensures compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory agency requirements.

Span of Control: Manages approximately 30 staff members consisting of Supervisors, Coordinators, and Health Information Associates.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and facilitates timely and accurate medical record processing and monitors smooth workflow by managing staff to ensure completion of daily tasks and the reduced likelihood of backlogs
  • Ensures that all paper records scanned on the units are processed and in the EMR within the required timeframes
  • Monitors the paper to the EMR quality validation process to ensure that it is timely, and the integrity of our legal record is intact
  • Ensures timely receipt of loose reports for scanning into the EMR
  • Oversees Release of information, scanning, and validation process to ensure that Emergency Room and Same Day Surgery records are available in the EMR within the required timeframe
  • Coordinates and facilitates timely completion of medical records, ensuring adequate clerical record completion initiatives and measures are in place to achieve the same
  • Actively ensures that all appropriate HIM staff manage the analysis of discharges according to the approved timeframe
  • Contacts physicians to encourage timely completion of documentation
  • Oversees the suspension process from the HIM perspective to ensure that it is performed accurately
  • Oversee day-to-day operations within the span of control, resolving problems as necessary, and ensuring that operations are efficient, compliant, safe, and of the highest possible quality Optimize management structures and workflows within the span of control to continually improve quality and efficiency

  • Updates department policies and procedures including, EMPI, record destruction, abbreviation policies for all sites, and forms creation. Ensure that all policies are updated in the revenue cycle shared drive
  • Make sure correct data is transmitted to State and regulatory agencies
  • Oversees and approves work schedules/requested time off for the operations staff
  • Performs H&P record review per joint commission findings

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information or equivalent experience
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification through the American Health Information Management Association with at least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Thorough knowledge of Health Information Management functions including, transcription services, the release of information regulations, privacy laws, standards, and processes

Work Type: Full-Time

Standard Hours: 40.00

Work Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm

Salary Range: $28 to $45 hourly depending on experience
