Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York — plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care, and two urgent care offices. Purpose:Works under the direction and supervision of Pathologist/Medical Examiner, performing technical work required for autopsies and other postmortem examinations. The Diener will positively identify and prepare the body for and assist the pathologist in conducting the autopsy.
Collects nasal samples the day prior to autopsy for infectious disease testing, when applicable.
Ensures morgue is properly prepped for autopsy ensuring that stock and sample containers are available & filled with formalin.
Ensures positive identification of body for collection of samples and autopsy.
Lifts, places & properly positions body on morgue table and prepares body for autopsy.
Assists pathologist in autopsy as required.
Demonstrates proper procedures in cutting, removing and weighing of organs.
Collects toxicological samples and obtains tissue/fluid samples as requested by pathologist.
Ensures proper labeling, handling and storage of specimens.
Properly closes body and prepares for pickup by funeral director.
Maintains proper level of supplies and storage of specimens.
Ensures cleaning and maintenance of morgue and autopsy equipment
Properly disposes of samples after the examination and finalization of autopsy.

Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
·High school diploma or equivalent.
·One to two (1-2) years of experience
