External Description:

SUMMARY: Provides security, safety and guest services to enhance the overall environment for all patients, employees, physicians, visitors, and other guests of Northern Dutchess Hospital and its corporate affiliates.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS

Responsibility I

1. Provides security services to maintain a reasonably safe environment.

1.1 Responds to all requests for security services within a reasonable length of time, documenting each request on the daily task log.

1.2 Provides parking lot security and parking enforcement with a visible presence as scheduled by the manager and/or coordinator.

1.3 Collects, documents, transports, and secures patient valuables according to Northern Dutchess Hospital policy as requested by the Nursing Department

1.4 Reports to Emergency Room post at scheduled start time according to the daily schedule. Maintains post, monitoring camera systems and does not leave except in emergency or other urgent hospital situations.

1.5 Documents in the daily task log online all calls for service by Emergency Department.

1.6 Documents all reported losses, vandalism, safety situations, and other related security matters on a Security Department incident report form online and passes pertinent information to other staff members in a timely and efficient manner providing all investigated information obtained.

1.7 Conducts fire drills as scheduled and provides completed report including any identified problems with corrective action taken.

1.8 Provides internal and external rounds of the facility, including the out buildings, ensuring all doors are properly secured, reporting deficiencies on the daily task log as well as notifying the manager and/or coordinator immediately.

Responsibility II

Maintains all assigned equipment to ensure proper functioning of all shifts.

2.1 Handles all assigned equipment properly and doesn’t lose, damage, or take home any assigned equipment.

2.2 Uses and maintains the department vehicle in accordance with department policy.

2.3 Delivers by hand daily, portable radio and Security Department keys to oncoming officer at change of shift.

2.4 Reports missing equipment, needed repairs, or needed replacement of equipment to the manager and/or coordinator in a timely manner.

Responsibility III

Provides other safety/security functions as requested by the manager and/or coordinator to assist with routine services.

3.1 Notifies the manager or coordinator immediately whenever a courier request is received, including pertinent information to expedite the service. (Left this in due to the fact they have on some occasions just left the building with one officer to cover the entire facility)

3.2 Trains all new employees as designated by manager and/or coordinator of all aspects of security responsibilities.

3.3 Adheres to Northern Dutchess Hospital Policies and Procedures and should be proficient of all policies and procedures found on HQ Net.

3.4 Inspects and documents all fire extinguisher inspections as assigned by the manager and/or coordinator.

3.5 Insures all aspects of the morgue responsibilities are fulfilled including related documentation, BSI protection and management notification when at surge.

3.6 Assists with required audits, measurements, Joint Commission preparedness, drills and employee education as directed by the manager and/or coordinator.

Responsibility IV

Promotes a safe and efficient working environment by adhering to medical center and department policies and procedures.

4.1 Adheres to Infection Control Policies and Procedures at all times.

4.2 Maintains appearance of work area(s) according to department standards.

4.3 Adheres to all safety regulations, taking immediate action to correct imminent threats to life safety, reporting any variances to manager and/or coordinator immediately afterwards.

4.4 Attends and actively participates in all in-services as required.

4.5 Reports immediately all incidents, irregularities, unsafe conditions, equipment and/or unusual occurrences to coordinator or manager.

Responsibility V

Responds to various emergency situations, including hazardous material spills, to eliminate or minimize unsafe conditions.

5.1 Provides crowd control and directs fire department officials to all house emergencies and disaster situations. Interacts well with local Police and Fire officials when required.

5.2 Responds to all reports of hazardous material spills within 5 minutes to secure the scene and notify Environmental Services/Facilities for needed assistance.

5.3 Responds to all emergency security calls on “711”, or through switchboard operator, within 2 minutes and completes incident report within 24 hours.

5.4 Provides direct supervision of violent or disruptive patients for a limited time as instructed by the manager and/or coordinator, or the Nursing Supervisor.
