Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York.

Summary:
This position is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and consistency of health information across all entities of the Health System. The Data Integrity Specialist provides resolution of urgent Master Patient Index (MPI) duplicate/overlay errors impacting patient care. The individual also performs investigation and resolution of non-emergent errors concerning potential duplicates using daily reports and task queues. The Data Integrity Specialist understands the legacy master patient indexes, as well as the Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and the impact on downstream systems. The individual communicates with departments throughout the system to facilitate MPI and chart correction issues and resolution, and communicates outcomes.

Responsibilities:

1. Supports efforts to migrate to an enterprise-wide MPI including cleanup of historical duplicate records in Cerner and affected downstream systems, as applicable.

2. Provides for ongoing data integrity of the enterprise MPI using established mechanisms to identify, investigate, resolve and prevent duplicate medical record numbers and patient overlays, assuring that for each patient there is one record with the correct identifying information to support patient care and patient safety.

3. Interacts with all parties involved in each chart correction case and is responsible for ensuring all necessary corrections are made within established quality and productivity standards, validates each case before closure, and provides reports to the manager on request.

4. Coordinates with Nuvance Health entities as necessary to ensure manual merge of paper documentation and merge of downstream systems, as appropriate.

5. Responds promptly to emergent notification regarding MPI errors.

6. Concurrently monitors origination points of duplicate number assignments, and provides timely feedback to the appropriate departments.

7. Solicits assistance from Cerner technical support as needed to ensure completeness and accuracy of chart correction process for complex chart correction activities.

8. Contributes to design of EMPI maintenance tools to ensure optimal workflows and overall efficiency in carrying out position responsibilities

9. Assists as needed with the identification, development and validation of training curriculum as it pertains to ongoing EMPI cleanup activities.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:
License, Registration, or Certification Requirements: Certification in Health Information Management (RHIA or RHIT) is preferred, but not required.
